African Masters in Machine Intelligence (AMMI) Scholarship
I was awarded a fully funded scholarship to join the African Master in Machine Intelligence (AMMI) program at AIMS Senegal, covering tuition, accommodation, and living expenses. I was part of a cohort of 15 students from Cameroon, Ghana, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Sudan, Togo, Benin, and DR Congo.
My background is in mathematics and at some point I became genuinely curious about what machine learning was actually doing. AMMI felt like the right place to find out. The courses are taught by researchers from universities and industry: I studied Computer Vision with Laurens van der Maaten, Kernel Methods with Jean-Philippe Vert, among others. Coming from pure mathematics, the shift to applied ML has required adjusting how I think about problems, and that adjustment has been the interesting part.
